Legend has it that the exotic Mai Tai cocktail came to us from Tahiti. In the local language, its name means "out of this world," which perfectly highlights the unusual taste of the cocktail. The main ingredient of Mai Tai is rum, so it must be of high quality. Catch the recipes!

1. Classic Mai Tai

Garnish the finished cocktail with a pineapple slice, mint, or lime zest to your taste.

You will need: 30 ml golden Jamaican rum, 30 ml molasses rum, 15 ml Orange Curaçao liqueur, 15 ml almond syrup, 30 ml lime juice, 10 ml sugar syrup, ice.

Preparation: Shake all ingredients in a shaker. Fill a chilled glass with ice and strain the cocktail into it.

If you want to make the drink lighter, we recommend diluting it with fresh juice.

You will need: 30 ml light rum, 30 ml dark rum, 15 ml Orange Curaçao liqueur, 15 ml almond syrup, 30 ml lime juice, 10 ml sugar syrup, 50 ml orange juice, ice.

Preparation: Fill a chilled glass with ice. Shake all other ingredients in a shaker and strain over the ice.

Pineapple juice is also great for diluting the cocktail.

You will need: 50 ml golden rum, 15 ml Orange Curaçao liqueur, 15 ml almond syrup, 50 ml pineapple juice, 30 ml lime juice, 10 ml sugar syrup, ice.

Preparation: Shake all ingredients in a shaker. Carefully strain the resulting cocktail into a chilled glass with ice.

A lighter recipe with one type of rum.

You will need: 50 ml aged rum, 20 ml orange liqueur, 10 ml sugar syrup, 10 ml almond syrup, 20 ml lime juice, ice.

Any black rum will do, to taste – regular or spiced.

If it's too strong, add a little orange juice.

9. Non-Alcoholic Mai Tai

This original taste will be the best substitute for any lemonade.

You will need: 250 ml orange juice, 250 ml sparkling mineral water or soda, 250 ml pineapple juice, 30 ml lime juice, 30 ml almond syrup, 30 ml grenadine, ice.

Preparation: Fill glasses with ice and divide all the juice equally. Add almond syrup and grenadine, and stir gently. Top up the cocktail with soda and stir again.

10. Tiki Mai Tai

Its main feature is its unusual presentation. Pineapple slices and bamboo leaves are suitable for garnish.

You will need: 20 ml golden rum, 20 ml dark rum, 20 ml orange liqueur, 15 ml almond syrup, 20 ml lime juice, ice, 1 brown sugar cube, absinthe, 1/2 lime.

Preparation: Shake golden rum, orange liqueur, almond syrup, and lime juice in a shaker. Strain into a tiki glass with ice, and top with dark rum. Place an inverted half of a lime and garnish the glass to your taste. Soak the sugar with absinthe and place the cube on the lime. Light it and serve the cocktail. When the sugar melts, pour it into the glass.

11. Mai Tai with Orange Syrup

A Hawaiian version with an even more pronounced tartness.

You will need: 40 ml white rum, 20 ml dark rum, 15 ml orange liqueur, 10 ml orange syrup, 5 ml sugar syrup, 25 ml lime juice, ice.

Preparation: Shake all ingredients with ice in a shaker. Strain the cocktail into a chilled glass filled with fresh ice.

The cocktail loses its characteristic almond aroma but acquires an unusual red hue.

You will need: 50 ml white rum, 10 ml dark rum, 15 ml orange liqueur, 10 ml grenadine, 5 ml sugar syrup, 30 ml lime juice, ice.

Preparation: Fill a chilled glass with ice. Add all ingredients and a little more ice to a shaker. Shake the cocktail and strain it into the glass.

You will need: 40 ml light rum, 40 ml dark rum, 80 ml pineapple juice, 80 ml orange juice, 80 ml coconut milk, ice.

Preparation: Fill a glass with ice and pour in both types of rum. Then pour in both types of juice and finally, the sweet coconut milk. Stir the cocktail.

16. Non-Alcoholic Mai Tai with Syrup
