There's no need to prepare broth in advance; just add your favorite vegetables and spices. Any type of Pacific saury will do, but if it's in oil, it's best to drain it. If it's in its own juice, you can use that for the soup. We're sharing tried-and-true recipes!
1. Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup with Celery

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 3 potatoes, 2 celery stalks, 1 carrot, 1 onion, salt, spices.
Preparation: Dice the potatoes, add them to boiling water, and cook for 5-7 minutes. In the meantime, chop and lightly fry the remaining vegetables, and mash the saury with a fork along with its liquid. Add everything to the potatoes, season with salt and spices to taste, and cook the soup until the vegetables are tender.
2. Rice and Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 4 tbsp rice, 1 bell pepper, 1 carrot, 1 onion, herbs, salt, spices.
Preparation: Chop and fry the onion with carrot and bell pepper. Transfer the vegetables to a pot, pour in about 1 liter of water, bring to a boil, and add the rinsed rice.
Cook for 10-15 minutes, then add the saury to the pot. If it's in its own juice (not oil), you can add it along with the liquid. Cook the soup for another 10 minutes, then remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped herbs.

3. Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup with Tomato
Source: AdobeStockIf you prefer it spicier, sprinkle chili flakes over the finished soup.
You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 100 g rice, 2-3 potatoes, 1 carrot, 1 onion, 2 tbsp tomato paste, parsley, salt, spices.
Preparation: Dice the potatoes, chop the onion, grate the carrot, rinse the rice, and put everything into a pot. Add your favorite spices for broth and cover with water.
Bring the soup to a boil and simmer for 15-20 minutes over low heat. Then add the saury, tomato paste, and re-season if needed. Simmer the soup for another 5 minutes over low heat.
4. Pearl Barley and Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 3 potatoes, 2 tbsp pearl barley, 1 carrot, 1 celery stalk, 1 onion, salt, spices.
Preparation: Rinse and cook the pearl barley according to package instructions. Dice the potatoes, and chop and fry the remaining vegetables until soft. Add the potatoes and sautéed vegetables to a pot, cover with water, and cook until the potatoes are tender. Then add the saury pieces and pearl barley, season with salt and spices, and cook the soup for about 5 more minutes.
5. Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup with Spinach

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 3 potatoes, 100 g spinach, 1 carrot, 1 onion, 1 bunch of herbs, salt, spices.
Preparation: Dice the potatoes, cover with water, and cook for 15 minutes until soft. In the meantime, chop and fry the onion with carrot, drain the liquid from the saury, and mash it with a fork.
Add everything to the potatoes, add the spinach, and season the soup. Bring it to a boil, simmer for another 5 minutes over low heat, remove from the stove, and sprinkle with chopped herbs.
6. Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup with Tomatoes

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 2 potatoes, 60-80 g rice, 2 tomatoes, 1 bell pepper, 1 carrot, 1 onion, herbs, salt, spices.
Preparation: Dice the potatoes and cover with water, cook for 10 minutes, then add the rinsed rice. Separately, chop and fry the onion, carrot, and bell pepper. Add the chopped tomatoes, season with salt and spices, and simmer for 4-5 minutes. Add the sautéed vegetables and saury to the soup, sprinkle with herbs, and cook for another 5-7 minutes.
7. Millet and Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 3 potatoes, 3 tbsp millet, 1 carrot, 1 onion, salt, spices.
Preparation: Rinse and cover the millet with water, bring to a boil, and cook for 10 minutes. Add the chopped vegetables and saury pieces, and cook for another 15-20 minutes over low heat. At the end of cooking, season the soup to taste.
8. Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup with Green Peas

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 3 potatoes, 200 g frozen green peas, 1 bell pepper, 1 onion, 2 cloves garlic, butter, herbs, salt, spices.
Preparation: Chop and fry the onion with bell pepper and garlic in butter until soft – you can do this directly in the pot. Add the diced potatoes and fry for another 3-4 minutes, stirring.
Cover with water, bring the soup to a boil, and cook for 10 minutes. Add the saury pieces, and if it's in its own juice, add it along with the juice. Add the peas, bring to a boil again, and cook the soup for another 5-7 minutes. Season and sprinkle with herbs at the very end.
9. Pacific Saury Canned Fish Soup with Processed Cheese

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 300-350 g potatoes, 1 carrot, 1 onion, 2 processed cheese blocks, 1/2 bunch of dill, salt, spices.
Preparation: Dice the potatoes, cover with water, and cook for 15-20 minutes. Chop and fry the onion with carrot until soft, mash the saury with a fork, and dice the processed cheese. Add everything to the soup, season with salt and spices, and cook for about 7-8 minutes over low heat until the cheese melts. Sprinkle with chopped dill at the end of cooking and serve.
10. Solyanka with Pacific Saury Canned Fish and Sauerkraut

You will need: 1 can of Pacific saury, 300 g mushrooms, 300 g sauerkraut, 2-3 potatoes, 2 pickled cucumbers, 1 carrot, 1 onion, 2 tbsp tomato paste, salt, spices.
Preparation: Dice the potatoes, cover them with water, bring to a boil, and cook for 15-20 minutes. Chop the onion, grate the carrot, slice the mushrooms, and finely dice the pickled cucumbers.
Squeeze and lightly chop the sauerkraut. Fry the onion with mushrooms for 4-5 minutes, add the carrot, simmer a little longer, then add the tomato paste and cucumbers. Mix well and cook the sautéed mixture for another 3 minutes.
Add the cabbage and half a glass of water from the pot, and continue to cook for 5 minutes covered over low heat. Add this sautéed mixture and the saury to the potatoes, season with salt and spices, and cook the solyanka for 5 minutes. Finally, let it steep under the lid.
