You will need: 15 gherkins, 1 tbsp salt, 2.5 tbsp sugar, 3 tbsp vinegar, 1 dill sprig, 1 bay leaf, 3 peppercorns each of black and allspice, 1 clove garlic.

Instructions: Soak the gherkins in cold water for several hours, then trim their ends. Place the cucumbers with all spices and additions into a clean, dry jar, pour boiling water over them, cover with a lid, and let cool.

Next, drain this water, add salt, sugar, and vinegar to it, pour the resulting marinade back over the gherkins, and seal for winter. Invert and wrap the jar until completely cool.
