Classic Tomato Paste Gravy with Flour for Cutlets

This classic tomato paste gravy with flour turns out thick, aromatic, and pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes, porridges, or pasta. Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste;
- 500 ml meat broth or water;
- 20 g butter;
- 1 tablespoon wheat flour;
- 1 teaspoon sugar;
- 2 bay leaves;
- salt and ground black pepper to taste.
Step-by-step recipe
- Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the flour, and fry for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add the tomato paste and cook for another 1 minute.
- Gradually pour in the warm meat broth or water, stirring continuously with a whisk.
- Add sugar, bay leaves, salt, and ground black pepper. Cook the gravy for about 8-10 minutes over low heat until slightly thickened.
