Ingredients
- 300 g buckwheat groats;
- 1 can stewed meat;
- 1 carrot;
- 1 onion;
- 2 cloves garlic;
- 3-4 sprigs parsley;
- 700 ml hot water;
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika;
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme;
- 1 bay leaf;
- salt and ground black pepper to taste.
Step-by-step recipe
- Chop the onion, grate the carrot, and sauté the vegetables with the fat from the stewed meat in a cauldron over medium heat until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and spices, and after another minute, add the pieces of stewed meat and rinsed buckwheat.
- Stir, pour in hot water, cover, and cook the soldier's porridge for 20-25 minutes over low heat until all the liquid is absorbed.
- Let the cooked porridge rest for a bit longer under the lid and sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.
