Meatless Tomato Gravy for Buckwheat and Rice – Delicious Recipe

This meatless tomato gravy for buckwheat or rice will be moderately thick and pleasantly diversify your everyday menu. And it's made from simple ingredients that are always on hand. Ingredients
- 1 large onion;
- 1 large carrot;
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste;
- 250-300 ml water;
- 1 teaspoon sugar;
- 2 bay leaves;
- salt and ground black pepper to taste;
- vegetable oil for frying.
Step-by-step recipe
- Chop the onion, grate the carrot on a coarse grater, and sauté the vegetables until soft in a pan with vegetable oil.
- Then add the tomato paste and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring. Instead of tomato paste, you can also use your favorite tomato sauce.
- Pour in the water, add sugar, bay leaves, salt, and ground black pepper. Adjust the amount of sugar and salt to taste, depending on the acidity of the tomatoes.
- Simmer the meatless tomato gravy for about 10-15 more minutes over medium heat until slightly thickened.
